PdMA,
The aim of the PdMA measurement system is to improve the reliability of electric motors through static (motor shut down) and dynamic (motor running) testing.
The combination of static and dynamic testing enables a company to conduct these inspections on all types of equipment.
Dynamic testing is used to collect data without having to shut the machine down (i.e. while the machine is running).
Static testing, on the other hand, is used to test motors that have been shut down.
Finally, the data obtained from this combination of static and dynamic testing is used to confirm the source and cause of the electrical fault before making a quick decision on the specific preventive or corrective action to take.
There are six zones called fault zones, that must be tested during an inspection or troubleshooting.
Failing to test one of these zones may prevent the correct detection of a fault and consequently jeopardise the advantages associated with predictive maintenance.
The six fault zones:
- Power quality.
- Power circuit.
- Insulation.
- Stator.
- Rotor.
- Air Gap.
